Foreign experts assess Aghdam historical monuments' destruction as acts of vandalism

"We observed destroyed villages and settlements at the entrance to Aghdam. Our guests expressed their regret and witnessed the tragedy once again," said Aydin Safikhanli, head of the Ombudsman's Office and member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of OIC.

According to him, foreign representatives have noticed a gross violation of people's property rights here:

"They said they had the impression that no one had ever lived here because no one can perpetrate such atrocities against his property. During the visit, the special experts of the OIC witnessed vandalism against religious beliefs and gross violations of religious freedom."

Safikhanli noted that foreign experts assessed the destruction of historical monuments in Aghdam as acts of vandalism:

"According to them, there was no such vandalism anywhere globally, and no such atrocities were committed in any war. They rightly called Aghdam the Hiroshima of the Caucasus and noted that the events they saw in Aghdam could indeed be assessed as urbicide. These inhumane offenses, of course, include war crimes. At the end of the visit, experts will prepare a report based on photo and video facts and send it to international organizations."

The members of the OIC fact-finding mission got acquainted with the building complex where Panahali Khan's palace is located. Then the experts visited the Aghdam Juma Mosque and prayed there. They will also visit the Giyasli Mosque.
