Amanda Paul: EU can contribute to normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The European Union can contribute to the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, President of the EU Council Charles Michel is very actively involved in this process, Amanda Paul, Senior Policy Analyst at the European Policy Centre (EPC), told Report.

“I don't think that the European Union will be able to fully take the role of Russia in the issue of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Because Russia has been a key player in this region for a long time. But, of course, it is important that the EU comes up with such an initiative, as it can provide support for the restoration of the territories by financing this process, as well as facilitating confidence-building measures between the parties.”

EU Council President Charles Michel is very actively involved in the process of normalizing relations, said Amanda Paul.

"I was in Agdam; Shusha is certainly different from it. This is a very beautiful region, I hope it will be restored as soon as possible," she added.

Paul noted the great potential of the region in terms of tourism development.
