Agency chief: Aghdam has excellent potential as Karabakh's economic center

As a center of the Karabakh economic zone, Aghdam has a broad potential, Azay Guliyev, chairman of the Agency for State Support to NGOs, told journalists during the visit to Aghdam.

Report's Karabakh bureau informs that, according to him, 30 years ago, Armenians committed unprecedented vandalism and atrocities.

"The main aim of this vandalism was to raze the Azerbaijani culture and history to the ground. But their evil intentions failed. Under the leadership of the Victorious Commander-in-chief, the Azerbaijani army managed to liberate our lands from the occupation in 44 days. Now huge reconstruction work is underway in these territories. One can feel nothing but a feeling of sheer pride about it."

Guliyev added that under the approved general plan of Aghdam, a city with a population of more than 100,000 people would be built here.

"A magnificent city will be constructed here with the application of the best world practices in town-building. It will be important not only in terms of town-building but also in economic terms. Two economic zones - Karabakh and North East Economic zones - were established on the initiative of Mr.President Ilham Aliyev. I believe that as an economic center of Karabakh, Aghdam has great potential. NGOs play a role in revealing this potential," he said.
