Section of Great Wall collapses after earthquake

A two-meter section of the Great Wall has collapsed after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit a Northwest China's Qinghai Province on Saturday midnight at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Report informs, citing foreign media, that after the strong seism, authorities organized an inspection of local cultural relics and discovered the collapse site. The wall collapsed 114 km away from the tremors epicenter.

The collapsed section dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

A primary protection has been installed and the repair and restoration work is in process.
