Overall work on the Toghanali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway project is 89% complete.
The Azerbaijan State Agency of Automobile Roads told Report that asphalt-laying work is underway in the Murovdag tunnel, one of the longest tunnels in the world. The 11.7-km tunnel is being built at the 13.5-km section of the Toghanali-Kalbajar-Istisu road.
The 82-km Toghanali-Kalbajar-Istisu road is considered one of the most important projects being implemented in Azerbaijan's liberated territories.
The most important section of the road passes through the Murovdag range, where the altitude rises to 3,250 meters. A tunnel is being built under the Murovdag range to ensure the safe operation of the highway.
According to the agency, the Murovdag tunnel ranks 18th in the world, fifth in Europe and first among CIS countries by length. Thirty-eight cross-passages connecting the right and left sections have also been built in the tunnel for emergencies.
In addition to the Murovdag tunnel, four more tunnels with a total length of 2,636 meters have been built under the project.
The highway starts from Toghanali village in Azerbaijan's Goygol district, passes through liberated Kalbajar and extends to the well-known Istisu recreation area. The road will provide comfortable and safe transport links to the district center and settlements in the region and will contribute to the development of agriculture and tourism.
