Russian Foreign Ministry: North-South corridor - flagship project for entire region

The North-South corridor is a flagship project for the entire region, Deputy Director of the Fourth Department of CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Kalugin said at the fifth meeting of the Russian-Azerbaijani expert council in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the implementation of this project also has a positive effect on relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

“The corridor has been developing for a couple of decades, but it was in the last two years that it entered an active phase of implementation, including the creation of a powerful western branch of this corridor, which runs through Azerbaijan, from Russia to the south to Iran,” he added.

Kalugin also emphasized that an active dialogue is currently underway with each party involved in this project.

“A roadmap has already been agreed upon regarding the implementation of the project, in particular the modernization of existing tracks and the construction of new ones,” he said.
