A pilot project to map informal settlements using AI is being launched in Paraguay.
Report informs that Antonio Vazquez, artificial intelligence specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), said this at an event held as part of WUF13.
According to him, the pilot project using artificial intelligence technologies to map informal settlements will begin this week in Paraguay's three largest cities. The initiative is being implemented with the participation of the IDB and IDE Atlas and includes a ready-made practical guide for working with geodata and satellite images.
Paraguay's Ministry of Urbanism and National Institute of Statistics have joined the project. The system makes it possible to automatically process satellite data and use pre-trained models to identify informal areas.
Vazquez noted that the accuracy of the maps will improve significantly with the involvement of local specialists, who will be able to correct the data and provide examples from their territories.
