Freight traffic along the North-South International Transport Corridor increased by 24% in January-August 2026, Rashad Majidov, Chief Operating Officer of ADY Express, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), said.
According to Report, he made the remarks at an international conference in Baku titled "The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity and Strategic Cooperation," held within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Majidov said 452,412 tons of cargo were transported along the North-South route in the first eight months of 2026, compared with 365,450 tons in the same period of 2025.
He also noted significant growth in East-West transit freight traffic, which rose by 18% year-on-year.
Cargo volumes on the East-West route increased from 2.363 million tons in January-August 2025 to 2.778 million tons in the same period of 2026.
Majidov stressed that the figure does not refer solely to the Middle Corridor, but covers cargo transported on all routes from east to west and in the opposite direction.
