A total of 53,574 TEU of cargo was transported along the Middle Corridor in January-August 2026, Rashad Majidov, Chief Operating Officer of ADY Express, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), said.
According to Report, he made the remarks at an international conference in Baku titled "The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity and Strategic Cooperation," held within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Majidov said freight traffic along the Middle Corridor stood at 48,326 TEU in the same period of 2025, meaning volumes increased by 11% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2026.
He noted that East-West traffic accounted for the bulk of shipments in 2026. A total of 42,642 TEU was transported east to west, while 10,932 TEU moved west to east.
Thus, around 80% of total traffic was in the East-West direction and 20% in the West-East direction.
Majidov added that 265 container block trains operated along the Middle Corridor during the eight-month period, up by 78 trains, or 29%, compared with the same period last year.
He said the figures reflected continued growth in container traffic along the Middle Corridor in January-August 2026.
