A ceremony was held in Hamburg, Germany, to deliver the first Airbus A321neo aircraft to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) under a leasing agreement with AerCap.
According to Report's correspondent in Hamburg, Airbus Commercial Marketing Executive Malhar Pendse said during a media tour that Azerbaijan occupies a strategically important geographic position between Europe and Asia and is an important customer for Airbus. He noted that the company received an order from AZAL in 2022.
According to Pendse, the Airbus A321neo is the first aircraft of this generation delivered to Azerbaijan.
Overall, Airbus has received orders for 26,272 aircraft from 450 customers worldwide, of which 17,019 have already been delivered.
The A320 family remains Airbus's best-selling aircraft series. The company has signed contracts for approximately 20,100 aircraft in the A320 family, with around 12,600 already delivered to customers.
According to Airbus, the company currently assembles between 45 and 75 A320neo-family aircraft per month. Aircraft components are assembled in the United States, France, China, and Germany, including in Hamburg.
Specifically, Airbus has received about 12,000 orders for aircraft from the A320neo family from 150 airlines. Orders for the A321neo alone total approximately 9,500 aircraft, with more than 7,700 already delivered.
The Airbus A321neo is a narrow-body aircraft that, thanks to new technologies, has evolved from a medium-haul jet into a long-range aircraft capable of remaining airborne for up to 10 hours. Its seating capacity has increased to 244 passengers.
Pendse noted that A321neo-family aircraft are currently operated worldwide.
"Today, more than 15% of all A321neo operations are on long-haul routes," he added.
In 2025, Airbus produced around 800 aircraft, including more than 620 aircraft from the A320 family.
