The main construction work at the Astara terminal, which is considered to be the main part of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, said Emil Mammadov, advisor to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Report informs.
He said that the construction of the Astara terminal was launched in 2017, and this terminal makes it possible to attract transit cargo volumes via Russia, Belarus and Iran.
Mammadov noted that the construction of the terminal will be carried out at an intensive pace this year: "In 2023, up to 800,000 tons of cargo was brought to the Astara terminal. After the construction is completed, it is planned to increase the loading capacity to 4 million tons per year.”
