Maimunah Sharif: New generation's needs call for rethinking housing sector approaches

The needs of the new generation and the importance of accurate data require rethinking approaches to the housing sector, stated Maimunah Mohd Sharif, former Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, at an event within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

She said that in the context of global crises, humanity needs to reconsider the balance of supply and demand in the real estate market.

The speaker emphasized that a clear database is necessary for this purpose. "We must learn to think without any boundaries at all," she stated.

According to Sharif, up-to-date information is important for understanding the needs of young people, who often choose renting over buying housing.

The expert added that housing investments should be based on affordability, proximity to workplaces, and adequacy of facilities.

"Housing is not just a construction sector; it is a matter of human dignity," she stated.
