Khudayar Hasanli: Construction project of container terminal in Baku port submitted to expertise - EXCLUSIVE

A project on the construction of a container terminal at the Baku International Sea Trade Port has been submitted to expertise, Khudayar Hasanli, the head of the strategic planning and development department of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, told Report.

Hasanli mentioned that the construction of the container terminal will be started soon.

"This terminal will enable container transportation between the port of Baku and the ports of Georgia at specified times. It will also help to increase the number of containers. Carriers will also know when their cargo will be released. This project, which will be implemented between the port of Baku and the port of Poti, is very important in terms of time for international carriers."

The Baku International Sea Trade Port, established in 2015, is built upon the historical Baku Port that has been operational since 1902. The port’s charter capital stands at 16,000 manats (approximately $9,500). It is comprised of various terminals, specifically designated for cargo, oil, and ferries.

On May 14, 2018, the new Baku Port was officially opened in a ceremony attended by President Ilham Aliyev. In its initial phase, the port boasts a loading capacity of 15 million tons, which includes the handling of 100,000 TEU containers.

Upon the completion of its second phase, Baku Port is projected to handle up to 25 million tons of cargo annually, with the capability to process 500,000 TEU containers.
