Kazakhstan plans to increase the throughput capacity of the Aktau and Kuryk ports by 50% by 2028, Report informs, citing the Transport Ministry of Kazakhstan.
“A comprehensive plan for the development of maritime infrastructure has been adopted for 2024-2028. According to the plan, it is envisaged to create a large maritime transport and logistics cluster based on the ports of Aktau and Kuryk. The implementation of this work will make it possible to increase container capacity, develop cargo transshipment terminals and logistics for international transport, as well as reduce administrative barriers,” the ministry said.
The Transport Ministry noted that work on dredging the waters of the port of Kuryk and the construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau will begin this year.
“The bulk of the projects will be implemented through private investments, including those planned as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. By 2028, it is planned to increase port capacity by 50%. Container throughput will also increase 3 times,” the ministry added.
Currently, the total throughput capacity of the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk is 21 million tons.
