The joint CubeSat being developed by the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has the potential to attract the interest of an even greater number of countries in the future, Secretary General of the OTS, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, said during the 4th meeting of the space agencies of the OTS countries, held in Baku.
He noted that the CubeSat project has become a key area of cooperation in the space sector: “Since the initiative was presented at the first meeting, the project has been developing steadily and consistently.”
It was announced at the meeting that Azerbaijan is ready to implement the project jointly with Türkiye and Kazakhstan within an optimal budget.
“At the second meeting in Tashkent, the parties reaffirmed their support for the project and agreed to establish a Steering Committee, consisting of two technical experts and one technical manager from each participating and observer country. Discussions continued at the third working meeting on October 4, 2023, in Baku during the 74th International Astronautical Congress, as well as during an online expert meeting on October 26. At the fifth meeting, held on July 9–10, 2024, in Astana, a consensus was reached on a general roadmap for the next phase of satellite development. Today, we are expecting reports from delegations on the current status of this flagship project. The Secretariat is confident that in the next stages, the initiative will attract interest from other OTS countries. For now, we continue working with the participants already involved,” Omuraliev emphasized.
