Groundbreaking ceremony of Azerbaijan-Iran road bridge takes place in Astara

After the meetings within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Road and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Rostam Ghasemi to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani and Iranian delegations visited the city of Astara in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

First, the groundbreaking ceremony for the road bridge to be built over the Astarachay River in Azerbaijan was held, Report informs. Then the Astara (Iran) Loading and Unloading Terminal was inspected.

Azerbaijan and Iran have agreed to intensify measures to address the problems encountered in completing the project's construction.

A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev took part in the groundbreaking ceremony.

A protocol on the construction of the bridge between Azerbaijan and Iran was signed at a meeting in Baku today.

The volume of bilateral and transit cargo transportation by road between Azerbaijan and Iran has increased in recent years. Due to the expiration of the existing road bridge over the Astarachay, there is a need to build a new one and a pedestrian crossing over the Astarachay in the Astara (Azerbaijan) -Astara (Islamic Republic of Iran) border checkpoint.
