Georgia to increase exports to China through BTK

"The launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway in reverse mode is a historical fact," said Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natela Turnava.

Report's local bureau informs that BTK transports cargo from Turkey to China via Georgia for the first time.

"Exports from Asia to Europe have been carried through the middle corridor for the last two years. However, this is the first time that we are witnessing the departure of an export train to China via Georgia," Turnava noted.

According to the minister, BTK is already operating in a bilateral mode: "The railway receives more cargo, which is important not only for the further development of Georgia's transit function but also for facilitating Georgian products' trading to the Chinese market. China is our number one export partner. Most Georgian wine is transported to China. We see excellent opportunities to increase exports through BTK."
