Groundbreaking ceremony for Malibay HPP held in Azerbaijan’s Lachin

The foundation of the Malibay small hydroelectric power plant was laid in the same name village of Lachin, Azerbaijan, on June 1, Report informs.

The project is jointly implemented by Azerbaijan Investment Company OJSC, owned by the Ministry of Economy, Turkish Demiroren Holding and Arges Enerji Teal.

The mentioned power plant is planned to be built on the Zabukh River, a tributary of the Hakari River, based on European and Chinese technologies.

The Malibay plant is the project's first phase. In the second stage, it is planned to build Galacha-1, Galacha-2 and "Minkand small hydroelectric power plants in Lachin district, while in the third stage Tartar-1 station in the Kalbajar district.

The total capacity of five small hydroelectric power plants, which will be completed in 2025, will be 13.8 MWh, they will produce 39.7 GW of electricity per year. The Malibay plant has a capacity of 5.1 MWh and will produce 14.57 GW of electricity per year.

The project's total cost is 25 million manats (about $14.7 million), and the service life of the stations is 30 years. Some 25 people will be employed in these stations.
