First electric bus launched in Baku

The first bus with an electric engine was launched on the route of Baku, said Vusal Karimli, Chairman of the Board of Baku Transport Agency (BNA), Report informs.

According to Karimli, the bus was bought from China and has 33 passenger seats:

"One electric bus bought for test purposes from China's BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of electric buses is 12. The total passenger capacity of the bus with 33 passenger seats is 82 people. The bus with a battery capacity of 383 kWh can travel 350 km on a full charge. The vehicle fully meets the requirements of modern passenger transportation."

The head of BNA said that during the test, the compatibility of the electric bus with the existing terrain of Baku city will be checked and evaluated:

"Based on the test results, a proposal will be prepared and submitted to the government regarding the introduction of electric buses in the public transport of Baku city."

Karimli added that 61% of the capital's bus fleet has been renovated in the past 7 years in order to provide citizens with high-quality and safe passenger transportation services:

"By the direct order of Mr. President, 1,044 medium and high-capacity modern passenger buses were purchased and put into operation on the route network of Baku city. More than 650,000 passengers use new and modern buses daily."

76% of the newly purchased buses are equipped with environmentally friendly compressed natural gas (CNG) engines according to the Euro 6 standard.
