Fiona Littlejohn: Urbanization deepens inequality in Latin America

Inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean continues to deepen amid urbanization.

Report informs that Fiona Littlejohn, a representative of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), said this at WUF13 in Baku.

"Informal settlements, unstable housing conditions, limited access to land and infrastructure, as well as socio-spatial segregation, limit not only people's quality of life, but also the productivity of urban economies. The development model pushes low-income people to the urban periphery, which is less resilient to climate change," Littlejohn said.

She noted that a new development model should be based on sustainable productive transformation and equality.
