Expert: Opening of all regional communications to accelerate South Caucasus development

The opening of regional transport communications can play a big role in accelerating the socio-economic development of the South Caucasus, researcher and independent economist Ulugbek Kamaletdinov told Report.

"This, first of all, allows us to reduce delivery time and transportation costs, which helps to increase the competitiveness of products and develop international trade, as well as attract foreign investment," he said.

The expert emphasized that the expansion of transit and the development of transport infrastructure creates new jobs and stimulates economic growth, since the construction and maintenance of roads and ports requires a significant number of labor force, which means it helps reduce unemployment and improve the living standards of the local population.

"And most importantly, improved transport connections make the South Caucasus region more attractive to investors, which can contribute to the development of industry, tourism and other sectors of the economy," Kamaletdinov added.

The Uzbek researcher also spoke about the role of the Zangazur Corridor in this issue: "The strategic importance of the Zangazur Corridor lies in its potential for the development of transport infrastructure, trade and economy in the region." It will provide additional opportunities for the transit of goods and services between Europe, India and Central Asian countries, he added.

"The Zangazur Corridor can be used to transport energy resources from Azerbaijan, such as oil, gas and electricity, which will contribute to the diversification of energy routes and ensuring the energy security of the region.

Undoubtedly, this corridor can become a bridge to strengthen ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan and their peaceful coexistence. This depends on the success of signing a peace agreement and establishing trust between both countries," concluded Ulugbek Kamaletdinov.
