Expert: Nothing threatens Georgia's transit function

The emergence of new routes on the region's logistics map will not significantly impact Georgia's transit potential, Report's Georgian Service informs, citing Paata Tsagareishvili, head of the Georgian Transport Corridor Research Center.

The expert believes that the commissioning of new railways and highways will not create obstacles for the successful implementation of Georgia's transit function.

"We have a very reliable corridor, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and soon, cargo transportation from Central Asia will be redirected to this corridor. Georgia will not lose the cargo delivered from Russia through the Lars checkpoint either, since this route is considered the shortest," Tsagareishvili said.

Baku, Moscow, and Yerevan are discussing the possibility of building a railway through Armenia. This route will connect Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhchivan, as well as Russia with Armenia. The construction of a motorway in the area is also under discussion. The possibility of connecting Armenia and Iran by a railway passing through Nakhchivan is also being considered.
