Drinking water tariffs may be revised in Azerbaijan

Drinking water tariffs may be revised in Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of Azersu OJSC Etibar Mammadov said at a briefing on the topic “Causes of water shortage in the country and the current situation,” Report informs.

He noted that drinking water in the country is sold at a price below its cost.

“Low tariffs impede the profitable operation of the institution, and the reconstruction is carried out at the expense of the state budget. If the tariffs correspond those applied in the developed countries, the profitable operation of the institution will become possible.”

Mammadov added that Azersu OJSC is developing a program to revise tariffs in the future, but the decision is made by the Tariff Council.
