Chairman: ASCO embraces new fuel types for zero emission goal

The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC (ASCO) is taking significant strides towards achieving its zero-emission target by adopting new fuel types in its operations, Rauf Valiyev, Chairman of the Board of ASCO, told Report.

Valiyev announced that ASCO has already placed an order with Baku Shipyard LLC for the construction of the first hybrid diving vessel to operate in the Caspian Sea.

“The concept and engineering of this project were developed by ASCO’s scientific research institute. This initiative is part of our efforts to achieve zero-emission. Shipping is a global trade activity, so we ensure our operations comply not only with Azerbaijani legislation but also with international conventions,” he added.

The chairman highlighted that the shipping industry is aligning its activities with the emission management policy to achieve the zero-emission target set by the International Maritime Organization for 2050.

He stated, “Achieving this goal is challenging. We recognize the difficulty and the significant investments required. To reach our objective, we closely monitor global developments and implement innovative solutions on our ships.”
