Catherine Klein: Society must not divide young and old

The modern world is becoming increasingly divided, but society should resist attempts to pit young people against the elderly, Catherine Klein, co-chair of the Older Persons Partner Constituent Group and representative of the global civic platform General Assembly of Partners, said at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

Speaking to Report, Klein urged societies to avoid generational divisions and instead promote a life-cycle approach.

"The way a person eats at 18 directly affects their health at 80. That is why it is important to speak about the human life cycle. Our main message is to unite people, not divide them," she stressed.

Klein also expressed hope for expanding long-term cooperation with Azerbaijan following the forum. She added that this is her second visit to Baku and praised the city's atmosphere.

"I am taking away the brightest impressions of how vibrant your city is," Catherine Klein concluded.
