Work on the creation of a multimodal cargo airport in the Alat Free Economic Zone (Alat FEZ) will be completed in the first quarter of 2027, Deputy Chairman Ismail Manafov said during the sixth ECO business forum, which is taking place in the city of Shusha, Report informs.
"We have agreed with investors on the creation of a multimodal cargo airport. The implementation of this project has already begun, and it is expected that the work will be completed in the first quarter of 2027. The airport's capacity will be 500,000 tons of cargo per year, with a subsequent increase to 2 million tons per year. The main goal is to attract investors and develop exports," he said.
As reported, the territory of the cargo airport will be more than 750 hectares.
He added that 10 companies are already registered in the Alat FEZ.
Manafov added that two factories will open in the Alat FEZ in 2025.
