Baku-Tbilisi-Baku train uses passenger locomotive for passenger transportation for the first time

The Baku-Tbilisi-Baku train for the first time began passenger transportation through the Prima M4 passenger locomotive.

Report informs citing Azerbaijan Railways CJSC that, to date, freight locomotives manufactured in the 70s of the last century have been used for railway passenger transportation.

Locomotive Prima M4 of the French company Alstom allows reaching the speed of up to 160 km/h.

Note that according to the contract of May 12, 2014 between the French Alstom Transportation S.A. and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, the latter plans to purchase 50 Alstom locomotives, with 40 to be operated for freight and 10 for passenger traffic.

10 units of Prima M4 passenger locomotives (AZ4A) and 8 units of freight locomotives have already been delivered to Azerbaijan.
