Heydar Aliyev was a fighter and devoted all his free time to people, Vyacheslav Aksyonov, a member of the board of trustees of the all-Russian public organization "BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline) Commonwealth", Hero of Socialist Labor told journalists, Report informs.
He noted the great role of Heydar Aliyev in the construction of the BAM: “He traveled along the Baikal-Amur Mainline for 10 days, stopped in villages, talked with builders and inquired about the problems. Then, having written down all the problems, in Moscow he helped our leadership solve all these issues. That’s because there were a lot of complex problems that could only be solved in Moscow and ministries.”
The veteran told reporters that in 1974, on April 27, he left for the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline from the 17th Komsomol Congress:
“Our work began in the village of Zvezdny, then we went to the village of Magistralny. Four years later I left as a detachment commander from the 18th Komsomol Congress to a village located in the north of Lake Baikal.
When we completed this construction, our team was transferred to work at the Angoy station, which was built by the Azerbaijanis. They also completed the Ulkan station and moved to the Buryat section. Our team was tasked with building a traction substation in Angoy, and on the other side a village and a station were being built.”
Aksyonov emphasized that as a sign of gratitude, the memorial plaque installed at the Angoy station bears the name of Heydar Aliyev.
