In January-April 2025, Azerbaijan’s cargo transport by sea reached 2.946 million tons, reflecting a 12.7% increase (332,800 tons more) compared to the same period last year, Report informs, citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.
Oil shipments accounted for 48.5% of the total cargo. Meanwhile, sea ports handled just over 4.543 million tons of loading and unloading operations, marking a 3.1% rise. Of this, nearly 3.798 million tons (83.6%) was transit cargo, showing a 7.3% increase.
As of May 1, 2025, 193,100 tons of cargo remained in ports, 35 tons (15%) less than the same period last year.
During the first four months of 2025, business entities operating in the country’s transport sector moved 76.1 million tons of cargo, with 3.9% transported by sea.
Passenger transportation by sea declined, with 7,900 passengers recorded, down 700 people (8.1%) compared to early 2024.
