Azerbaijan Railways sees growth in cargo transportation by 25%

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC transported 18.7 million tons of cargo in 2022, up 24.7% from 2021, Report informs referring to the joint-stock company.

In cargo transportation, growth was observed mainly for such types of cargo as oil products, chemical and mineral fertilizers, building materials, and coal.

In 2022, transit traffic increased by 63% to 7.5 million tons.

"For Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, which aims to become a leading partner in the field of transit transportation in the entire region, the turning point in this area came in 2022. Thus, compared to 2021, freight traffic along the East-West corridor increased by 500,000 tons to 3.9 million tons, and along the North-West corridor by 2 million tons, reaching a figure of 2.9 million tons. The growth of cargo transportation along the North-South corridor was recorded at 90%, the growth of transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route amounted to 41%," reads the message.
