Azerbaijan Railways: Baku receives order for cargo transit of over 5M tons

As part of the meeting of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), held on May 9-10 in Ankara, an order was issued for the transit transportation of 5.35 million tons of cargo through Azerbaijan, head of the cargo transportation department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) Emil Ahmadov said, Report informs.

He noted that 831,000 tons of cargo have already been transported: “Against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian war, transportation by Azerbaijan Railways has increased significantly. Growth is observed mainly in cargo transported in transit mode. If in four months of 2021 the company transported 5.34 million tons of cargo, then for four months of 2022 – 5.976 million tons. This means the transportation of additional 636,000 tons. Only in transit mode, we managed to transport more than 535,000 tons of cargo.”

As part of the meeting of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the corridor development strategy, the volume of cargo transportation, the marketing plan and the tariff policy for 2022 were discussed. It is expected that this year the volume of traffic along the corridor will increase 6 times.
