Azerbaijan, Georgia sign protocol on cooperation in railways

A meeting was held at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) with a delegation led by David Peradze, CEO of Georgian Railways JSC, ADY told Report.

At the conference, the chairman of the Society Javid Gurbanov spoke about the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of railways. He noted that the transport sector is always in the focus of the state attention as one of the main areas of cooperation. For this purpose, Azerbaijan actively participates in the implementation of all important international projects.

Geographical advantages further expand logistics and transit opportunities, and Azerbaijan has become an important international transport hub. The chairman of the society spoke about the reforms in the railway sector, emphasizing the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in transit. He said that the purpose of strengthening the activities of projects such as the North-South and South-West corridors, the International Trans-Caspian Transport Route is to increase the transit potential of the participating countries.

Peradze spoke about opportunities to strengthen cooperation further. Noting that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway connection is global, the guest pointed out that this project contributes to stability in the region, closer ties between our peoples, and economic development.

The meeting informed about the future development of this route, the work done to attract additional cargo to the ways passing through the territory of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Issues of mutual interest, cooperation within the Trans-Caspian international transport route, and other topics were discussed.

Then a protocol on bilateral cooperation was signed between the heads of the railway companies of the two countries.
