The current unstable weather conditions are causing difficulties for ships entering and leaving ports, leading to delays in cargo transportation, Mehman Mehdiyev, the press secretary of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), told Report.
Commenting on the situation regarding cars waiting to be sent to Azerbaijan at Kuryk Port of Kazakhstan, he stated that ASCO's fleet has enough vessels to meet the current demand.
"The main challenge stems from seasonal weather conditions. The current unstable weather creates problems for ships entering and leaving ports, resulting in delays. The situation is being closely monitored, and loading-unloading operations will be carried out promptly as weather conditions permit," Mehdiyev added.
Approximately 1,000 cars are accumulated at Kuryk port in Kazakhstan's Mangistau region, waiting to be sent to Azerbaijan. According to Kazakh media, about 50% of the port remains closed in November-December due to weather conditions. Another factor is the increasing number of vehicles. With the support of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport, an agreement has been reached to direct all Azerbaijani ferries to Mangistau.
