Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) has taken an important step to ensure gender equality and inclusivity in the shipping sector by hiring two women - Roya Alakbarli and Irada Astanova - as motorists for the first time, Report informs.
According to ASCO, they are 2024 graduates of Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy (ASMA) specializing in ship power plant engineering. Irada Astanova studied in the Azerbaijani language section, while Roya Alakbarli studied in the English language section. Both women aim to advance to the position of chief mechanic in the future.
According to ASCO's human resources management rules, these women, who successfully passed the test examination and interview, were hired in accordance with the fleet's staffing needs. Irada Astanova has started working on the President Heydar Aliyev tanker, while Roya Alakbarli has begun her duties on the Julfa tanker. These vessels are among the largest tankers in the Caspian Sea.
