Anar Guliyev: Cities account for over 40% of greenhouse gas emissions

Currently, cities account for more than 40% of greenhouse gas emissions across the globe, Chairman of the State Urban Planning and Architecture Committee of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev said at the round table themed "Green Construction in Azerbaijan" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to Guliyev, the construction sector is one of the fields that has a direct impact on the environment: “This sector accounts for more than 37% of carbon emissions on average,. Considering the full life cycle, buildings consume 50-70% of the world's natural resources. Therefore, in the climate crisis caused by global warming, sustainable and environmentally friendly construction practices are becoming more and more important.”
