Today, the competitiveness of cities is no longer measured solely by economic indicators or construction volumes, but also by the efficiency of public transportation, the accessibility of urban systems, and the city's resilience to the pressures of rapid growth, Fariz Jafarov, advisor to the head of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA), said at an event during WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, Baku is currently undergoing several simultaneous transformations: "It is transforming from a city shaped by the legacy of Soviet urban development into a modern, multi-centered metropolis. It is transitioning from an overly concentrated urban structure to a more balanced metropolitan ecosystem. It is transforming from an industrial city, defined primarily by large production zones and monofunctional districts, into a more flexible post-industrial urban environment shaped by mobility, services, technology, and changing lifestyles."
