EU's only uranium mining company has its permit revoked

The Administrative Court of Vaasa, Finland, has annulled part of the environmental permit of the mining and chemical company Terrafame, according to the court's press release, Report informs via TASS.

Terrafame's environmental permit has now been revoked due to increased production volumes, reads the statement.

To continue its operations, the company must apply for a new environmental permit for its activities by June 30, 2027. Terrafame is the only company in the European Union that mines uranium, nickel, and other metals.

Terrafame (56.1% state-owned) operates in the Sotkamo mining district covering an area of 60 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers have been developed. The turnover in 2023 was €561 million, with an operating profit of €94 million.
