World record holder refuses to stay in Olympic Village

Armand Duplantis, a Swedish pole vault world record holder, has made headlines by refusing to stay in the Olympic Village during the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Report informs via Expressen Newspaper.

Kajsa Bergqvist, captain of the Swedish national team, defended Duplantis's choice, stating: "He is a professional and has needs that must be respected."

She added that the athlete has already found a more suitable apartment.

The controversy surrounding the Paris 2024 Olympic Village has been brewing for some time. Athletes arriving at the village have criticized the cardboard beds, which have become a point of contention. Reports indicate that all 26,000 beds are made from paper or plastic materials, raising concerns about comfort and durability.

Adding to the athletes' disappointment is the absence of TVs and air conditioning in the rooms.

In general, Paris was not ready to host the Olympic Games, and the opening ceremony of the event clearly showed this.
