World Cup: Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler reaches semifinal

Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Hajimurad Mahammadsaidov has reached the semifinals of the Individual World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia.

The 92 kg athlete defeated Strahinja Despic (Serbia) and Alexandro Pancorbo (Spain) in the first two matches in a row. He will try to break the resistance of Georgi Rubayev (Moldova) on the way to the final.

Islam Bazarganov (57 kg) lost to Andrey Yatsenko (Ukraine) in the 1/8 finals, Jamaladdin Mahammadov (125 kg) to Robert Baran (Poland) in the 1/4 finals, and Gitinomahammad Hajiyev (70 kg) to Haydar Yavuz (Turkey). They will take part in a consolation game if their opponents reach the final.

Alyona Kolesnik (57 kg) defeated Laura Mertens (Germany) in a consolation match. Kolesnik will wrestle with Veronika Chumikova (Russia) for the bronze medal today. Alice Manolova (65 kg) will face Asli Demirhan (Turkey) for the bronze medal.

Earlier, Greco-Roman wrestlers Islambek Dadov (67 kg) won silver, Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) and Beka Kandelaki (130 kg) - bronze medals.
