World and European Championships in rowing may be held in Azerbaijan

In the coming years, Azerbaijan may play the host to the world and European championships in coastal rowing.

According to Report, the issue in this regard was discussed in Lausanne, Switzerland between the head of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation (ACCA) Vugar Ahmadov and the President of the International Rowing Federation (FISA) Jean-Christophe Rolland. The parties agreed to continue work in this direction.

At the meeting at the FISA Headquarters, information was provided on the history, stages of development, the present day and plans for the future of rowing in Azerbaijan.

Vugar Ahmadov noted that the head of state, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev pays great attention to sports and athletes: "Based on the relevant instructions of Ilham Aliyev, the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Center was overhauled in 2010. Competitions in kayaks and canoes of the 1st European Baku Games in 2015 were held at a high level in Kur, which today fully meets all international standards."

During the meeting, the FISA President was informed that Azerbaijani athletes have won numerous awards at international regattas - European and World Championships, as well as at the Summer Olympic Games.

Further development of mutual relations, organization of the visit of the head of the international structure to Azerbaijan were discussed during the meeting.

The FISA President highly appreciated the work done and wished the Federation success in future activities, saying that they are always ready to support the Federation.
