Two more Azerbaijani judokas to compete in world judo championship underway in Baku today

Baku. 25 September. REPORT.AZ/ Elmar Gasimov and Zelim Kotsoiev will join the championship in the 100 kg competitions on the sixth day. Both athletes will start competing from the 1/32 final. Report informs that their first rivals will be respectively Martin Pacek and Joakim Dvärby of Switzerland

The women judokas will test their strength in the 78 kg competitions with Azerbaijan not represented. The first bouts start at 10.00 am and the medal bouts at 04.00 pm.

Gasimov is the silver winner of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio-de-Janeiro and 2014 European Championship, and the bronze winner of the European championship of 2012 and world championship of 2017. The 27-year-old athlete won 5 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals in the World Tour series competitions. In 2009, he grabbed gold in the European youth championship held in Armenian capital, Yerevan, sounding the state anthem of Azerbaijan.

Kotsoiev is the winner of the European Cup and the bronze medallist of this year's European championship. The 20-year-old judoka is the winner of two Grand Prix events.

Notably, within five other days Azerbaijani athletes Aisha Gurbanli (48 kg), Buyankishiq Purevsuren (52 kg), Ichinkhorloo Munkhtsedev (57 kg), Orkhan Safarov, Karamat Huseynov (both 60 kg), Nijat Shikhalizada (66 kg), Rustam Orujov, Hidayat Heydarov (both 73 kg) and Mammadali Mehdiyev (90 kg) finished their participation with only Heydarov claiming bronze. Irina Kindzerska (+78 kg) and Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) will be last to compete in the individual bouts on September 26.
