2020 World Road Championships moved to Italy from Switzerland

The 2020 World Road Championships on 24-27 September will be held in Imola in Italy after being moved from Switzerland.

Report informs citing the BBC that cycling's governing body, the UCI to rearrange, came after it became impossible to hold the event at its original location in Aigle-Martigny on 20 September.

The Swiss government has restrictions on gatherings of more than 1,000 to 1 October amid the coronavirus pandemic.

There will be fewer disciplines in Italy, with just the main elite road race and time trial for both men and women - four races.

There will be no junior or U23 events and no team time trial mixed relay.

The start and finish of each event will take place on the Imola motor racing circuit, which is also set to hold a Formula 1 race for the first time since 2006 on 1 November.

But each route will break out onto the roads of Emilia Romagna - the men's road race will consist of nearly 5,000 meters of climbing and be 259.2km (161 miles) long.

The women's road race will feature 2,750m of ascending and cover a distance of 144km.

The time trial circuit will be 32km for both men and women.
