Soviet tennis icon Anna Dmitrieva passes away at 84

The tennis world is in mourning as Anna Dmitrieva, a legendary Soviet tennis player, renowned television commentator, and Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, has passed away at the age of 84, Report informs, citing Russian Tennis Federation.

The federation announced her death, though the cause remains undisclosed.

Dmitrieva's career was nothing short of extraordinary. She dominated Soviet tennis for nearly two decades, clinching an impressive 18 USSR championship titles across various categories. Her prowess extended beyond national borders, as she triumphantly claimed victory in 12 tournaments organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). She was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in 1964, worked as a commentator since 1975.
