UK Ambassador: Azerbaijani Paralympians are a source of pride for the country

A meeting with the delegation of the British Paralympic Committee took place at the residence of the UK Ambassador.

Report informs that UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan James Sharp, who opened the event, spoke about the history of the Paralympic movement and also recalled that it began in 1948 with archery competitions for wheelchair athletes - former servicemen.

"Later, the Paralympic games became a global movement," the Ambassador added.

Speaking about the successful participation of Azerbaijani athletes at the London Paralympics, James Sharp said that "Azerbaijani Paralympians are a source of pride for the country" and their successful participation in the Games impressed everyone.

The Ambassador noted that the British diplomatic mission will continue to implement projects to support people with limited health abilities.  Coach of boccia (Paralympic sport) athletes from the UK will visit Azerbaijan to hold seminars early next year.

On his part, spokesman of the British Paralympic Committee Tony Sainsbury expressed hope for the development of cooperation with the Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan.
