Promotion of gender equality through sport discussed in Baku during MINEPS VII

A session dedicated to the promotion of gender equality through sports was held in Baku within the framework of the MINEPS VII conference.

Report informs that during the session, the experts stressed the need to use the power of sports as a tool to promote gender equality.

Gender equality and women's empowerment in sport were noted as one of Fit for Life's three global priorities. To promote this call to action, UNESCO is developing a series of practical products to help end violence against women and girls and increase the use of sport as a key catalyst for equity and development.

The discussions focused on addressing barriers to participation in sports for girls and women, and best practices for gender equality and women's empowerment.

A partnership document Fit for Life will be adopted by results of the conference in continuation of the project of the same name, which is a sports initiative of UNESCO. The main goal of the project is to support inclusiveness in the field of sports, improve the well-being of young people, address the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and develop policies to reduce physical inactivity.
