Opening ceremony of Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup held in Baku

The opening ceremony of the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup has been held in Baku.

Report informs that Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, and Karl-Martin Dittman, a member of the Bureau of the World Wrestling Union (UWW), and President of UWW Europe, attended the event at the Baku Sports Palace.

The minister welcomed the guests and emphasized that wrestling is one of the most beloved sports in Azerbaijan: “We have quite good results in this style. Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation is also very active. The organization of the World Cup also gives reason to say this. The state shows care about wrestling and sports. Yesterday we participated in the opening of the Judo Grand Slam in Baku. Another large-scale tournament has kicked off today. The Azerbaijani state and the President of the country always pay special attention to sports. I wish success to our athletes who will compete in this competition and other future tournaments.”

Karl-Martin Dittmann spoke about the importance of the competition and conveyed his greetings on behalf of UWW President Nenad Lalovic.

Later, the opening ceremony continued with music and dance performances. First, the Azerbaijani flag was brought to the palace, followed by flags of other participating countries.
