Italian cyclist Sonny Colbreli has regained consciousness after suffering a possible heart attack at the end of the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia cycle race on Monday, Report informs, citing Xinhua.
The sprinter, who rides for the Bahrain Victorious team, finished in second place behind Michael Matthews in the first stage of the race, which took the riders on a testing 171 kilometers around Saint Feliu de Guixols, but he then collapsed unconscious moments after crossing the finishing line.
Spanish National TV network RTVE reports that he was given an immediate heart massage by team doctors and then taken to a nearby ambulance.
His team has confirmed that Colbreli has since regained consciousness and is able to talk and has been taken to hospital for further tests.
Colbreli was unable to take part in Saturday's Milan - San Remo race due to a chest infection, but it is not certain if that is related to what happened this Monday.
