Islamic Games: Azerbaijan secures another medal

Azerbaijan won the next medals at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya, Turkiye.

The female taekwondo player Farida Azizova secured at least the "bronze" by advancing to the semi-finals. The athlete in the 67 kg weight category won the 1/4 finals over Kazakhstan's Feruza Yergeshova.

Besides, Azerbaijani taekwondo player Javad Aghayev (68 kg) claimed a bronze medal. Parviz Isgenderov (63 kg) was defeated by Eldar Birimba of Kazakhstan.

Taekwondo player Patimat Abakarova (49 kg) advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Farida Sauman of Nigeria. With this, she secured at least a bronze medal.

Thus, the number of medals won by Azerbaijan at the Islamic Solidarity Games reached 6.

Azerbaijan won 3 medals during the first five days of the competition. Anna Skidan (athletics, vaulting) won gold, Alexis Copello (athletics, triple jump) - silver, and Hashim Mahammadov (taekwondo) - bronze medals. With this result, Azerbaijan is in 9th place in the medal ranking.
