Formula 1: Interesting moments about races in Baku

The Baku City Circuit’s action-packed races have thrown up some unusual stats over the past three seasons. Report informs citing the official website of F1, here are the five key numbers you need to know before heading into the race weekend in the City of Winds. Azerbaijan GP 2019 Media Pass Sergio Pérez is the only driver with multiple podium finishes to his credit in Baku. Driving for Force India, the Mexican driver recorded his first in 2016, placing third when the race was under the European Grand Prix moniker. He repeated the finishing position last year. The 2018 result handed Perez his eighth career podium finish. He now has more podiums than any other Mexican driver and lies one ahead of Pedro Rodríguez. Azerbaijan GP 2019 Media Pass Daniel Ricciardo requires eight points to hit 1000 career championship points. Sixth place or better this weekend would see him reach the milestone. The Australian’s form here is up and down. In 2016 he started second but finished the race in seventh place, suffering with tyre problems. The following year he scored a brilliant win from 10th on grid in a chaotic race, but last year he collided with then Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen midway through a grand prix to forget. Azerbaijan GP 2019 Media Pass of this year’s full-season rookies have stood on the top step of the Baku podium – in junior series. Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi (pictured) scored victory in both the feature and sprint race here in the final year of the GP2 series in 2016. Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon won the FIA Formula 2 Championship feature race last year, while Williams’ George Russell finished first in 2018’s sprint race. Only McLaren’s Lando Norris has missed out on the champagne in Azerbaijan. Norris finished sixth in last year’s feature race and fourth in the sprint race. Azerbaijan GP 2019 Media Pass Lance Stroll was just 18 years and 239 days old when he claimed his first podium finish at the end of the 2017 grand prix. Stroll ran as high as second in the race but was beaten across the line by Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas. Third place still made him the youngest driver to claim a podium in his rookie season. Azerbaijan GP 2019 Media Pass Nico Rosberg’s 2016 victory in Baku was the second grand chelem of his career. Driving for Mercedes, the German scored pole, won the race, led every lap of the race and set the fastest lap, a time of 1:46.485, on his 48th tour of the Baku City Circuit. His only other perfect weekend was achieved a month prior to his efforts in Baku, at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.
