Azerbaijan intends to bid for hosting major international figure skating tournaments in the future after increasing the number of ice arenas in the country, Secretary-General of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation, Gunel Badalova, told Report.
She noted that the new ice arena in Baku meets all standards and allows for hosting major competitions.
The federation representative revealed details of the upcoming Grand Prix figure skating event in Azerbaijan in 2025.
"The preparation process has not yet begun. Submitting an application to host the Grand Prix in Azerbaijan and making the final decision in conditions of high competition was a lengthy process. It was necessary to prepare the required documentation," Badalova said.
The Grand Prix event will be held from September 24 to 27, 2025, at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex in Baku. It is expected to involve about 150 athletes from more than 20 countries.
